In 1998 Duravit introduced the Starck 2 line and it was a wonderful success. Today that line has been enhanced and was brought out at the recent ISH World trade show!
The above ceramic wash basin is very similar to the previous model but has been elongated just a bit from it’s former circular model. You’ll also notice that the base is now flat giving the piece an added depth with side that gently slope upwards.
For 2013, designer Philippe Starck has updated the collection with a refined washbasin, an innovative tub, and clean shower trays to further enhance the contemporary aesthetic. While maintaining the fundamental design DNA of the original series, Starcks latest additions add a modern look at an accessible price point.
The new tub is made to enjoy. It has an integrated neck rest and a form that has a modern look and feel. Anyone who appreciates a wonderful bath will surely love these features and style from Philippe Starck and Duravit.
The tubs clean, strong rectangular lines combined with it’s angled back and neck rest give you the comfort you’ve looked for in a tub as well as the style. This trend toward cleaner lines and simple modern forms is something that I saw a lot of while at the IMM show in Germany. It’s also something that I believe we’ll be seeing more of in the the US too.
The last piece that was brought out was the shower pan. New Starck Slimline shower trays round out this reinvigorated collection. A characteristic design feature is the flat installation height, reducing the rim to a mere 4/5 of an inch and making it ideal for all standard shower enclosures. In addition to a rectangular variant, the Starck Slimline shower trays are also available in a quadrant-shape to comply with both national and international building standards.
Now I personally love the look of this shower. Clean, sleek and everything that you need to make a beautiful presentation.
Now if you happen to be attending the ICFF show this May in New York, you’ll be able to see this line in person. I’d love to hear what you think if you do go so don’t be afraid to stop by and leave a comment.
